AWARE (Australian Wildlife Assistance Rescue and Education Inc.) is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer wildlife rescue and rehabilitation group that operates in Frankston and the surrounding suburbs.
They are devoted to assisting sick, injured or orphaned wildlife that may otherwise be left to suffer or die by providing a 24 hour emergency rescue hotline service, manned by volunteers knowledgeable in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation techniques.
They actively address wildlife concerns with government bodies, other wildlife groups and work to increase the number of rescuers and carers in the state. Additionally, they are working towards expanding the knowledge and expertise of their carers/rescuers, members and the general public. This is achieved through the introduction of regular workshops and events, presented by specialists in the field of wildlife care, and through phone advice given by their dedicated team of hotline operators.

If safe for you, approach the animal calmly and confidently

Throw a towel over it and make sure its head and claws are covered

Place in a ventilated box lined with a towel. Birds are best placed in a cardboard box so the feathers won’t get damaged, other animals such as possums can be placed in a pet carry cage or similar.
